Administration note

I've removed, for the moment, a couple of posts from this weblog. Not saying too much but the intention is to assist the safety of someone else. No I'm not going to say which posts they were!
Later (24th Feb 2010) - these posts have now been restored as there is nothing in them which is not available elsewhere on the internet and, to date, no request has been made to take down those other pages.

Administrative note

Not much happening here at the moment - if I find an internet cafe with an SD card reader this may change - otherwise it will have to wait until my return. Tonight I'm sleeping at 1550 metres...but there are lots of other nicer weblogs out there!

Books and routers

Since I acquired a new router I've been unable to administer - or post to my wordpress book blog, the blog lives on my home machine and is set up to use the full address when administering and, I assume, the router doesn't like http traffic leaving and then returning to it. So while I try to work out how to solve this - I may try administering it from work, I'll post book related stuff on another blogspot location.

Only connect...

Looks like I'm back in business - not sure how it was fixed but it involved some combination of flashing the router with new firmware, saving the router state to disk first and then reloading the settings and finally running the connection wizard. Sorted, but I'm none the wiser and not sure what the prognosis is for that piece of hardware.
I had a spare router left by my brother-in-law when he emigrated but no lights came on when I applied power, so I assume it is even less of a working piece of hardware than this one!

connection problems!

My router died last night - while I'm trying to rustle up an appropriate liturgy for the internment, you're only likely to get any responses to emails to me if you use my gmail address...if you don't know it, comment on this post (in vague terms if you don't want to broadcast the request!!) and I'll get back to you!

Uploading images with blogger

If you are having this problem (bX-68tbuv) then using the advice here is what fixed it for me - it was failing after pressing the upload button.

Church Rota delights

For the first time for months I'm not slaving over a hot checkout on Saturday afternoon and am instead having an enjoyable(?) few hours trying to get the Church rotas for February/March planned. This includes all the rotas - the leaders/preachers has already been done - but I then have to fit readers/prayers/sidepersons/tea makers etc. so that they all don't clash (too much!) It then gets put on the web. I use LaTeX to format it but am considering moving to OpenOffice.org if only because it makes pasting things around a little easier. I see that my latest version of OpenOffice.org comes with a LaTeX export tool so I could still get a good final copy. At the moment I'm still hesitating mainly because I do things in a rush and a migration will take a little longer.
With an interregnum coming next month there are inevitably people who were on the rota who are no longer doing it, thus making things just that bit more tricky. Musing on whether things need specifying more completely with no-one around to pull things together Sunday by Sunday or to be a little freer and easier.
I've also taken temporary charge of the parish blog - Rod - who is leaving - did offer to cybersquat on the account but we said it wasn't necessary - but there's not been a lot of action there recently. For ease I've moved it into being administered by the same google email as this one and I now see that the about section has a picture of me rather than one of the church(!) - anyone know if you can get different photos there? If I'd known I'd have grabbed myself another gmail account - which I suppose is still a solution toghether with giving this account posting rights.
