Mutterings - 7 June

This week's word associations from Unconscious Mutterings are:
  1. Hockey :: sticks (jolly)
  2. Twirling :: give us a ....
  3. Montreal :: Jesus of
  4. Better :: Best
  5. New :: car!
  6. Rally :: car! (recover)
  7. Stanley :: knife (Baxter)
  8. USB :: port
  9. Scouted :: Powell
  10. Cough :: wheeze

spooky, we bought a new (to us) car yesterday and, in the last 12 hours I asthmatic and wheezing like mad - so some of the above came naturally.

Alright, this is really making me wonder -- three non-American mutterings I've looked at in a few minutes now and all three have "knife" for Stanley. Very intersting! If a single American has that answer, I'd be very surprised.

See ya :)

You've thrown in a couple of twists here.
I've gotten used to seeing the Stanley Knife thing, but why Baxter?
And why are Hockey Sticks jolly?

Clearly Stanley knives are a uk construct! Stanley Baxter is (was going to say 'was' but I've just visited his wikipedia page) a Scottish comedian.
Jolly hockey sticks - is a spoof of what upper class UK boarding school girls of the 1950's might have said, there's some interesting explanations - and links(!) here
